  • My debts and funeral expenses are to be paid.
  • I give £50 to my daughter Hester, wife of Richard Tidmarsh, to be paid a year after my decease.
    I also give her 1½ gns for her care and attendance during my illness, the furniture in the best room and all the pewter in the closet, to be paid immediately after my decease.
  • I give £20 each to my other two daughters Ann and Elizabeth Bowerman, to be paid two years after my decease, and to each a bed and furniture now standing in the garrets in the house where I now dwell, to be delivered immediately after my decease.
  • I give £50 to my son Thomas Bowerman, to be paid a year after my decease.
    I also give him the following :
    • The furniture of the room where I sleep, with the bed and bolster.
    • My watch and all my wearing apparel.
    • Half of the boards that were cut out of the large oak which I had out of Blandford Park, all to be delivered immediately after my decease.
    • All the money due at my decease out of the Club of which I am now a member.
  • I give my clock, furnace and iron chimney-back to my son John Bowerman.
  • I give all my working tools, ferns, ropes and bars, to be equally divided between my two sons John and Thomas Bowerman immediately after my decease at the discretion of my loving brother John Andrews whom I make my Trustee.
    I also give them all the rest of my household furniture, equally divided.
  • I give all my copyhold estates in the Manor of Charlbury to my son John Bowerman and his heirs forever, according to the Custom of the Manor, subject to the payment of the above legacies.
    I also give all the rest of my real and personal estate, stock in trade, bills, bonds, book debts, ready money and chattels and everything not already disposed of to him and his heirs etc forever and appoint him sole Executor ... revoking all former wills.
    I charge him with the care and maintenance of my son Thomas and my daughter Elizabeth until they reach age 21 or marry, if they choose to live with him.

In the Name of God Amen I John Bowerman the Elder of Charlbury in the County of Oxford Carpenter, Being
of sound minde memory and understanding, do make this my last Will and Testament in Writing in Manner and form
following, And first I Will that my Body be decently and Christianly Buried my Just Debts and Funeral Expences
fully satisfied and paid by my Executor herein after named, and as for my Real and personal Estate and Estates,
I Dispose thereof as followeth (that is to say) I hereby give and devise to my daughter Hester the wife of Richard
Tidmarsh the Legacy or sum of Fifty pounds of good and lawfull money of great Britain, Togeather with all
the Furniture in the Best roome and also all the pewter that is in the Closset I Also give and devise to my daughter
Hester the legacy or sum of One Guinea and an half for her care and attendance during my Illness, to be paid to
her my said Daughter Hester Tidmarsh by my Executor herein after named (that is to say) the legacy or sum of One guinea
and an half togeather with the household goods and pewter Imediately after my Decease, and the Legacy or sum of
Fifty pounds at the Expiration of one year next after my decease, I Also hereby give and devise unto my other two
Daughters Ann and Elizabeth Bowerman the Legacy or sums of Twenty pounds each of like lawfull money
of Great Britain, togeather with a Bed and Furniture each, which Beds and Furniture are now standing and
being in the Garretts in the House wherein I now dwell, the money to be paid by my Executor unto My two daughters
Ann Bowerman and Elizabeth Bowerman at the Expiration of two years next after my decease and the Goods to be
delivared Imediately after my decease, I Also hereby give and Devise unto my son Thomas Bowerman the Legacy or
sum of Fifty pounds of like lawfull money of great Britain togeather with the Furniture of the Roome wherein
I formerly slept togeather with the Bed and Bolster wheron I now sleep with my watch and all my wearing apparel
Also I Hereby give and devise to my son Thomas one half of the Boards that was cut out of the large Oak which I
had out of Blandford Park, the legacy or sum of Fifty pounds to be paid to him my said son Thomas Bowerman
by my Executor herein after named at the Expiration of one year next after my decease, and the Household goods wearing
apparel watch and Boards Imediately after my decease, I Also hereby give and Devise to my son Thomas Bowerman all the money
that shall arise to be due to me at my decease out of the Clubb of which I am now a Member, I Also give and devise unto my
son John Bowerman my Clock and Furnice and Iron Chymney back, I Also give and devise unto my two sons John Bowerman
and Thomas Bowerman all and all manner of my working tools, Ferns, Ropes and Bars, to be Equally devided between them
Imediately after my decease at the Discreation of my trust hereinafter named. I Also hereby give and devise unto my two sons John and
Thomas Bowerman to be Equally divided between them all the Remainder of my Household furniture not by me before disposed of, And I do
hereby Charge my Executor herein after named with the care and maintinance of my said son Thomas Bowerman and my said daughter
Elizabeth Bowerman untill they attain their Respective ages of twenty one years or be married if he my said son Thomas and she my
said daughter Elizabeth so choose to live with my Executor, And I do hereby charge my Real and personal Estates with the payment
of all and every the sums of money or legacy’s herein by me disposed of or intended so to be, And I do hereby nominate my loving brother
John Andrews as trust to see that all and every the demises of this my last will and testament be performed according to the true
Intent and meaning thereof, I Also give and devise to my son John Bowerman all my Copy-hold Estates within the Manor of Charlbury
to hold to him and his heirs for ever according to the Custom of the manor of Charlbury subject nevertheless to the payment of the aforesaid legaceys
All the rest of my real and personal Estate and Estates togeather with my stock in trade Bills, Bonds, Book debts, ready money and chattels, and every
thing that is mine and not before my me disposed of I Give and devise to my son John Bowerman and his Heirs and Assigns
for ever, And I do hereby make constitute and appoint my said son John Bowerman whole and sole Executor of this my last
Will and testament hereby revoaking and making void all former or other wills by me made at any time heretofore In witness
whereof I the said John Bowerman the Elder have to this my last Will and Testament sett my hand and seal this fifth
day of September in the year of our Lord One Thousand seven Hundred and ninety one.

Signed sealed published and declared by the said John Bowerman the Elder the testator as and for
his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in the presence and at the request of the
Testator and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses hereunto                 John Bowerman

Will named was sworn to the truth thereof and as
usual and also that the Effects are under Three
Hundred Pounds
         Before me J. Cox Surr.

This Will was proved at Oxford on the 28th day of December in the Year
of our Lord 1791 Before the Revd John Cox Clerk L.L.B Surrogate of the
Reverend George Turner Clerk M.A. Official Principal of the Reverend
Archdeacon of Oxford lawfully constituted by the Oath of John
Bowerman the son and sole Executor therein named to whom
Adm'con was granted being first sworn duly to Administer
