The testator gives no relationships. The editor leaves guessing to the user :-)
Debtor Marton FRENCH and witness Marton FYNCHE are both clearly legible, but seem likely to be the same person. This is the Register copy -- perhaps the clerk made a mistake. Users should at least be aware of the possible problem.

  • My body is to be buried in the churchyard of Godington.
  • I give the mother church of Oxford 2d.
  • I give to the chancel of Godington 4d.
  • I give 3s 4d to Sir Lawrens Gyeles, parson of Godington, for his pains to administer the sacraments to me and for writing my will.
  • I give three sheep to Edmond Paxton's children of Beggars Barton, that is to Edmond a shear? sheep and to Peter and John a sheep.
    The three sheep are already in Edmond's keeping.
  • The above Edmond Paxton of Beggars Barton has £4 of mine, of which I give his son Edmond (my godson) 5s, the rest is to be delivered to John Lyng? of Godington.
  • I give to Richard Watson of Fringford and his children those of my sheep which are already in his keeping.
  • Richard Dymocke owes me 3s 4d which I give to Raffe and Henry Paxton.
  • Marton French owes me 4s. of which I remit 2s.
  • Robert Jacman of Godington owes me 51s 4d of which 5s is to be distributed among his children, 13s 4d to be distributed to the poor and 6s 8d given to my godson Robert Paxton. I give the residue to John Kinge.
